Autumn Ground

When you sing the words
Of my story once to be heard
I can’t stop wishing you’d stop
To hear your voice speaking
It ain’t the words that are wrong
Neither just your voice

And while all the birds
Are just listing to you
Am I catching their wings
To make sure they won’t
Let your words fly away

And I can’t speak
And I can’t listen to you
To all your innocent words
I’d catch them, steal them
But I’d break them all

Under the blue sun
Catching the words you would have said
Some of those are taking me
The wind tries to steal them
Just a story to be told
While I try to leave

And while butterflies
Will just listen to you
Just me catching their wings
To make sure they can’t
Let your words fly away

And I can’t talk
And I can’t hear you now
Taking your loving words now
I’d break them, crush them
And I’d break them all

And I can’t sing
And I can’t listen to you
So afraid to crush your words
Crush them like leaves
On an autumn ground
