December's Song

The days are shorter
And coldness fills my eyes,
Voices, unheard but spoken
Follow their words upon the rhyme
The fog is taking over the ground
Frozen leaves will fall and fall
Ice will set down on liquid ways of being
And nothing else will stare so long
As me staring to the clouds to fade

Oh December,
Don’t come too soon
It’ll be your cold filling this empty space
Full of candle lights, unbroken light
Reflected by the sun’s willing to fade
And I’m breathless
Oh December
Don’t leave too soon

Snowflakes on your lips,
Melting slowly away from the surface
But you kiss me brightly and slowly,
And I freeze and melt into your hands
It is this cold created to fear the cold
And follow words upon this breath
It’s an embrace that has come
To enter without fear and cold
Because it always will be more
Than snow falling on the ground

Oh December,
Don’t come too soon
It’ll be your ever lasting kiss
Burning my cold skin away
Holding the tears away from melting
And I’m breathless
Oh December
Don’t leave too soon

Ice flowers and so cold,
This blue that would take over
Ice crystals over your skin
Fluency all over this solid way of crawling in
And my emptiness has filled along
These hollow spaces with so much longing
And covered, covered with so much cold
These reflections deep and dark
Fallen over your imperfect way of breathing
This light, taken and never recovered
Breathing soulless inside the wind

Oh December,
Don’t come too soon
Before I blow out my last words of this year
